MEDICAL INFORMATION YOU NEED TO GET ABOUT YOURSELF OR YOUR PARTNER

Good day lovelies,

1. What is nocturnal emission?
Nocturnal emission is the spontaneous ejaculation of semen while asleep, sometimes accompanied by an erotic dream. Nocturnal emission is also called 'wet dream' or 'night emission'. It is a normal psychological process by which old sperms come out of the body as the testicles prepare new ones. Study shows that each day around 100 million sperms are formed in each testicle.

Though normal, nocturnal emission becomes abnormal if it occurs very frequently. This may happen as a result of watching pornography or indulging in erotic activities. People facing this problem are advised to stop indulging in immoral sexual behaviours and engage in spiritual activities like praying and studying the word of God.

2. Can a woman produce breast milk without being pregnant?
For women who are pregnant or recently gave birth, lactation is normal. However, it is possible for both women and men to produce a milky discharge from the nipples without being pregnant or breastfeeding. This form of lactation is called galactorrhea, and is different from the normal milk a woman produces when breastfeeding.

Galactorrhea can occur due to excessive breast and nipple stimulation. It can also occur as a result of drugs (including antipsychotics, antidepressants, and drugs for high blood pressure), tumors, hormonal imbalance, among others.
Treatment include changing medications, surgical removal of any tumors affecting the pituitary gland, and others. People who experience galactorrhea are advised to consult a doctor first before taking any medical step.

3. What is orgasm?
Orgasm is the point during sexual activity when sexual pleasure is strongest. It is described as the climax of sexual pleasure and is associated with ejaculation in males and vaginal contractions in females. Orgasm can last for 4 to 6 seconds or more, followed by the relaxation of sexual tension and body muscles. Comparing men and women, it generally takes more time for women to reach orgasm.

Study shows that a man can reach orgasm within 4 to 8 minutes while a woman may take 10 to 15 minutes, and can have multiple orgasms simultaneously. The length of time may however vary due to individual differences. Since it generally takes more time for women to reach orgasm, husbands are advised to stimulate their wives appropriately and adequately before penetrative sex so that orgasm in both may arrive together.

4. Is it okay for a man to keep a laptop on the lap?
Study shows that it is not a good practice for a man to keep a laptop on the lap. The heat from a laptop can warm a man's scrotum which in turn can affect sperm production. High temperature is not good for healthy sperm production, and I believe that may be among the reasons why God made the scrotum to hang outside. It is also said that keeping laptop on the lap can decrease the sperm quality due to the electromagnetic fields generated by the laptop's internal circuit and the radiations from the laptop.

5. Can the food a man eats affect his sexual health?
Yes. One way a man can improve his sexual health is through diet. The foods you eat provide the building blocks you need to power your body, including the penis and other sexual organs. Foods that help boost your sexual health and function include: spinach, apples, avocados, chili peppers, carrots, oats, tomatoes, watermelon, oysters, dark chocolate, walnuts, grapes, garlic, salmon and other fatty fish, olive oil, bananas, cherries, ginger, potatoes, and eggs.

6. Are there some foods to avoid during menstruation?
Yes. There are certain foods and drinks which are not good during menstruation. Some of these include: coffee, alcohol, spicy foods, fried foods, red meat, candy, sweet snacks, sugary drinks, and cold water. Taking in these foods can worsen the symptoms of a woman's period.

In contrast, there are other foods and drinks which help during that time of the month. These include: vegetables, wheat, oats, brown rice, watermelon, cucumber, fish, spinach, turmeric, dark chocolate, lentils, yogurt, and ginger. Remember, ginger is good but consuming more in a day can cause heartburn and stomachaches. These foods are fine in moderation.

7. Is it okay to wash the vagina from inside?
The vagina has self-cleaning mechanisms. Therefore, it is not a good practice to wash the vagina from the inside with water or chemical. Doing that can wash away some good bacteria (lactobacillus) and disrupt the healthy vagina pH.

However, women should be observant to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy vaginal discharge, and consult a doctor for treatment in case of any unhealthy vaginal discharge.

Class dismissed ✍️👌🍸
